Arctic Monkeys: The formidable return of British music

Not famous for the easy-to-hear pop songs, but by the powerful use of instruments and techniques and the private voice of Alex Turner, the Arctic Monkeys have conquered and had a certain place in the hearts of listeners.

After 5 years of vacation, the Arctic Monkeys announced a new song, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. This time, the music style of the Arctic Monkeys tended to change, no longer heavy guitar rock, the way the group’s previous AM album became famous but this time the music was more romantic, a bit of easy listening jazz written by the lead vocalist, singer Alex Turner.

After 16 years of working together, the British band, Arctic Monkeys has been a potential group that can break music charts in the US with their new record, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. The quartet has just started a North American tour with 25 days in different cities.

Arctic Monkeys have performed well from singing to performing music charts in the UK for years. The most recent album, AM, which debuted in 2013, ranked 6th in the US charts with 1.3 million sales, more than the number of albums sold in the UK of 1.2 million.
The band was praised by many critics, winning seven BRIT awards (equivalent to the British Grammy Award) and many other prestigious awards. Many people have favored, trusting the Arctic Monkeys as a new phenomenon from England, probably the successive music generation of previous geniuses such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd – or outstanding individuals like Amy Winehouse and Adele.

On the contrary, many critics also point out some of the reasons why the Arctic Monkeys retain their local English accent is a bit hard to hear and other cultural elements. Anyway, a good example is nothing to stop the Beatles from spreading because of their English accent. Many people complained about a somewhat funny name of Arctic Monkeys, which is not the reason why the British group Led Zeppelin stopped developing.

All the reasons given by listeners or critics are just an excuse for the development of a group. Music is inherently a language, sometimes without you having to understand, but most importantly, feeling. Music language, no matter what language we sing, we can feel it and it does not inhibit any artist’s development because of their own identity.
